  • December 1 Zhaohang Zhang and Anastasiia Krushynska presented the research activities of the Metamechanics group at Orbia (WavIn) company. We are very excited about the started collaboration and look forward to seeing more industrial applications of metamaterials and joint projects.
     

  • November 30  The paper "Additively manufactured rigid-flexible metamaterials for advanced sound control" by Zhaohang Zhang, Dimitry Krushinsky, and Anastasiia Krushynska is published in the INTER-NOISE and NOISE-CON Congress and Conference Proceedings. The text is here.
     

  • November 27 The editorial "Fundamentals and applications of metamaterials: breaking the limits" by Anastasiia Krushynska, Shahram Janbaz, Joo Hwan Oh, Martin Wegener, and Nicholas Fang is accepted for publication in the Applied Physics Letters journal. It overviews the state-of-the-art research on the design, functionalities, and applications of different types of metamaterials.
     

  • November 24 The paper of Zhaohang Zhang "Shape-morphing of Tubular Structures with Tailorable Mechanical Properties" is accepted for publication in the reputable Advanced Engineering Materials journal. Congratulations, Zhaohang!
     

  • November 23 An interview with Dr. A.O. Krushynska on the breakthrough with metamaterial mandibular implants is published in the University newspaper U-krant. It can be read here.
     

  • November 16 Dr. A.O. Krushynska is a partner in the concortium of the "iMPaCT-implants: intelligent Manufacturing from PAtient-Centred Technology" project led by UMCG and funded by the Samenwerkingsverband Noord-Nederland (SNN) in the framework of the EU programme for regional development! This project aims to implement cutting-edge research on innovative personalized medical implants. The news coverage is here.
     

  • November 1 Hema Chandra Venkata Megha Shyam Veluvali has started his Ph.D. project on Metamaterial-based mandibular implants to reduce bone resorption. Congratulations, Shyam, and welcome to the group!
     

  • October 30 Sidhardth Beniwal introduced the Metamechanics group to the SEP Evaluation Committee. Well done, Sidharth!
     

  • October 19 The paper of Yu Xue, the visiting Ph.D. student from Harbin Engineering University in China, entitled "Widely tunable magnetorheological metamaterials with nonlinear amplification mechanism" is accepted for publication in the International Journal of Mechanical Sciences.   • October 15 The paper "Analytical characterization of the dynamic response of viscoelastic metamaterials" by Sabiju Valiya Valappil, Anastasiia O. Krushynska, and Alejandro M. Aragón is published in the Computational Materials Science. Great job, Sabiju! The text is here.
     

  • September 29 Sidhardth Beniwal and Anastasiia Krushynska showcased the research activities of the group at the European Researchers Night in Forum Groningen. We were very pleased by the vivid interest of the visitors to metamaterials and the excellent organization of the event. Many visitors also participated in the Quiz on Noise pollution organized by A. Krushynska.
     

  • September 28 MSc student Leon Wierenga has successfully defended his research MSc project. Congratulations, Leon, and lots of luck with finalizing your studies!
     

  • September 14 Dr. A.O. Krushynska was interviewed by the students following the Nature of Scientific Disciplines course in the podcast series. Her interview was about sound and vibration manipulations by metamaterials. The recording is available here. 
     

  • September 5 Dr. A. O. Krushynska gave an invited talk at the IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium 2023 in Montreal, Canada on dissipative elastic metamaterials and their characterization. The paper can be found here.
     

  • August 28  Dr. A.O. Krushynska gave a plenary talk at the online conference "Modern Problems in Mechanica" in Kyiv, Ukraine about the activities of the Metamechanics group. It was nice seeing many Ukranina colleagues doing their best in these difficult times.
     

  • August 23  Dr. A.O. Krushynska gave an invited talk at the INTER-NOISE 2023 conference in Chiba, Japan about sound absorption by different types of acoustic metamaterials.  
     

  • July 18 Dr. A.O. Krushynska gave an invited talk at the META2023 conference in Paris, France, about Frequency-Driven Wave Steering in Elastic Metamaterials.
     

  • July 5 Dr. A.O. Krushynska gave an invited talk at the 29th Nordic Congress of Mathematicians with EMS on the applications of mechanical and elastic metamaterials in shape-morphing, and ultrasonic applications.

  • June 26 IEM B.Sc. students Ariajn Westra, Wisse Forkertsma, and Damien Dufour have finished their integration projects on the applications of metamaterials in exoskeletons, for noise-absorbing barriers, and deep-water wave control. Your results are very exciting, well done!

  • Nov 25 Dr. Krushynska gave a lecture on applying metamaterials to develop adaptable robotic grippers as a part of the "Technasium" program for secondary-school pupils. It was inspiring to see the pupils' enthusiasm about the possibilities of metamaterials!

  • Nov 10 Together with Dr. E. Jurak and Dr. J. Xie, dr. Krushynska co-organized a career-activity event "Women in academia" aimed at attracting more women in academia. 
     
  • Sep 22 Dr. Krushynska is awarded a 360 000 euros grant in the framework of the Open Competition Domain Science-M Programme from the National Dutch Research funding agency (NWO)! We are so happy about it!
     
  • Aug 26 The collaboration paper from the research group of dr. A. G. P. Krushynska acted as role models in speed dates organized by VHTO for girls of the Rudolph Pabus Cleveringa Lyceum in Appingedam (in the north of the Groningen region). Hopefully, this type of events will help to attract more females to study physical sciences.

  • August 28 I presented an oral talk "Tunable extremely wide low-frequency band gaps in accordion-like metamaterials" at the 12th International Congress on Artificial Materials for Novel Wave Phenomena held on 27 August - 1 September 2018 in Espoo, Finland. Special thanks to the Organizing Committee for the wonderful dinner devoted to 50th anniversary of the famous Veselago paper. It was very inspiring!
